Can Kick Cashback take back cashback after it's been paid?
Category: Payments & Claims
Kick can only recover paid cashback in two situations: the retailer reverses or refunds the underlying purchase, or the cashback was obtained through confirmed fraud or abuse. That's the complete list. If you made a genuine purchase, kept it, and the retailer confirmed the sale, your cashback is yours — Kick doesn't reach back into paid-out cashback for any other reason.
Situation 1: the purchase is reversed or refunded
Cashback follows the purchase. It's funded by the commission the retailer pays Kick when your sale completes — so if you return the order, cancel it, or the retailer reverses the transaction, the commission is reversed too, and the cashback it funded goes with it. If that happens after you've already withdrawn the money, the adjustment is simply deducted from your future cashback (or shows as a small negative balance that clears the next time you earn). This is how every cashback platform works, because none of them can keep paying out commission that a retailer has taken back. Full guide to returns and refunds.
Situation 2: confirmed fraud or abuse
If cashback was generated through fraud — stolen payment cards, fake orders, multi-account schemes, or colluding to create sales that were never real — Kick recovers it. "Confirmed" is the key word: this applies to established abuse of the platform, not to ordinary shoppers whose orders happened to be flagged for a routine check.
What recovery does NOT apply to
A genuine purchase you kept — once the retailer confirms it, the cashback is yours.
Rate changes after your purchase — the rate that applied when the retailer confirmed your sale stands.
Kick changing its mind — there is no discretionary "we can take it back whenever" in practice; recovery is tied to the two situations above.
Slow shopping habits, low activity, or how often you withdraw — none of these affect paid cashback.
Why the terms sound broader than the practice
Like every platform's terms, Kick's Terms & Conditions spell out recovery rights in careful legal language covering chargebacks, commission reversals, and fraud. In plain English, all of those clauses trace back to the same two triggers: the sale didn't stand, or the cashback wasn't honestly earned. More on chargebacks and disputes.
How a recovery actually happens
Where a recovery applies, it's deducted from your available or future cashback first. Kick doesn't send debt collectors after ordinary shoppers over a reversed commission — negative balances from returns simply clear as you keep earning. More on the cashback lifecycle.

Our Experience
We are a first-party cashback platform — we work directly with retailers rather than reselling another company's network. Our team negotiates cashback rates, manages partner relationships, and processes payments in-house. According to industry data published by IAB Australia, partner and cashback marketing represented over $1 billion in tracked Australian retail sales in 2024 (source: IAB Australia Online Advertising Expenditure Report). Kick Cashback is part of this growing sector and is committed to passing the majority of retailer commissions back to shoppers as cashback.
Our editorial team draws on direct experience working with major Australian retailers and global partner networks. We publish detailed cashback information, retailer terms, and shopping guides based on first-hand knowledge of how cashback tracking, attribution, and payments work. Where industry standards or regulatory guidance applies — such as the Australian Consumer Law administered by the ACCC, or the Privacy Act 1988 administered by the OAIC — we cite the relevant source so readers can verify our claims.
