Can I shop at international stores, and how does currency conversion work?
Category: Payments & Claims
You can shop at international retailers through Kick Cashback the same way you shop at Australian ones — click through from your Kick Cashback portal, complete the purchase, and the cashback tracks back to your account. The only differences are the currency the cashback is recorded in, and the payout options at the end.
Which international retailers are in the portal?
Kick Cashback partners with retailers across Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Each store's Kick Cashback page lists the country it ships from and the currency cashback will be recorded in. Browse the full stores directory to see which international brands are currently available.
How tracking works for international stores
Identical to Australian retailers — the affiliate cookie set when you click through from Kick Cashback is what links the purchase to your account. International retailers use the same affiliate networks (Awin, Impact, Rakuten, Commission Factory, Partnerize), so all the same rules apply: don't open a third-party coupon site after clicking through, pause your ad blocker, and complete checkout in the same session.
Which currency is the cashback recorded in?
Cashback is recorded in the retailer's billing currency:
- Australian retailers — AUD
- New Zealand retailers — NZD
- US retailers — USD
- UK retailers — GBP
- European retailers — EUR
You'll see your balance broken down by currency in your dashboard at kickpay.co. Each balance moves through the same Earned → Pending → Available to claim → Paid out lifecycle.
Payout options by currency
- AUD — paid via BECS direct credit to any Australian bank account, 1-3 business days, no fee.
- USD — paid via ACH to any US bank account, 1-3 business days, no fee.
- NZD — paid via NZ local clearing to any New Zealand bank account, 1-3 business days, no fee.
- GBP / EUR / other currencies — held in your account until you request conversion to AUD, USD or NZD.
Currency conversion fee
If you'd rather have your foreign-currency cashback paid out in AUD, ask us to convert it. Manual conversions carry a 2.5% fee, which is competitive with the spread your bank would charge if you took the foreign payout and converted it yourself. The conversion uses the mid-market rate at the time we process the request, less the 2.5% fee. There's no fee if you keep the cashback in the original currency and pay out to an account in that currency.
What about GST and import duties?
Kick Cashback doesn't add GST to your cashback and doesn't deduct anything for import duties — those are matters between you and the retailer or Australian customs. Cashback is calculated on the order total in the retailer's currency, before any local-side import charges.
Tax treatment of foreign cashback
The general Australian tax position on cashback applies regardless of currency — see our is cashback taxable in Australia note. For business purchases or anything beyond personal shopping, talk to a registered tax agent.
