How does cashback work for travel, insurance and subscriptions?
Category: Portal Cashback (650+ Stores)
Travel, insurance and subscription purchases earn cashback the same way as any other category — but the cashback stays in the Pending stage for longer (typically 30-120 days) before it becomes Available to claim. The reason isn't that Kick is slower for these categories — it's that the retailer waits out their own cancellation, refund or contract-confirmation window before they pay the affiliate network, which then pays Kick, which then unlocks your cashback.
Why these categories take longer
For most retail categories, the retailer confirms the sale within a few days of purchase: the item ships, the return window passes, the network pays the commission. For travel, insurance and subscriptions, "the sale" isn't really complete until weeks or months later:
- Travel (flights, hotels, holiday packages): The retailer waits until you've actually travelled, because cancellations, no-shows and date changes are common right up to the day of departure.
- Insurance (health, car, home, travel insurance): Most policies have a 14-30 day cooling-off period during which you can cancel for a full refund. Affiliate commission is only paid after that window closes.
- Subscriptions (software, streaming, meal kits, mobile plans): Many have a free trial or money-back guarantee period of 7-30 days. Some — especially telco plans — wait until the customer has paid two or three monthly invoices before treating the sale as confirmed.
Typical Pending durations
- Insurance new policies: 30-60 days after the cooling-off period.
- Hotel bookings: 30-45 days after the stay date (not the booking date).
- Flights: 45-90 days after the travel date.
- Holiday packages: 60-120 days after the departure date.
- Software subscriptions: 30-60 days after billing.
- Telco plans: 60-120 days after activation.
What you'll see in your Kick Cashback account
The cashback is recorded as Earned the moment you complete the booking or sign-up. It then sits in Pending with the expected confirmation date shown on your dashboard. When the retailer confirms the sale to the affiliate network, the cashback automatically moves to Available to claim and you can request a payout to your bank.
Why these categories are still worth it
Travel, insurance and subscriptions are among the highest-rate cashback categories on Kick — see the live rate ranges. A 6% cashback on a $3,000 international holiday is $180, and a $100 flat cashback on a new health insurance policy clears in a couple of months. The wait is real, but the payouts are substantial.
Setting expectations
Don't book travel through Kick if you need the cashback immediately — the timing won't work. Book travel through Kick when you're confident you'll travel, and treat the cashback as a windfall arriving 1-3 months after your trip. Browse travel cashback stores and all partner stores to find current rates.
What if I cancel?
If you cancel a booking, return an insurance policy in the cooling-off window, or end a subscription before the trial converts, the retailer doesn't pay the affiliate commission and the cashback is voided. Read more on returns and refunds.
